Houston football fans scouring the Internet for deals on Super Bowl tickets without having to take out a second mortgage may have some encouraging news.
Plans are under way by the National Football League and the City of Arlington to allow fans to purchase standing-room only tickets for the big game at Cowboys Stadium, according to media reports.
Cowboys Stadium is already one of the biggest stadiums in the league with 80,000 seats, but the additional standing-room only attendance could make it the most-attended Super Bowl in history.
An increased supply in tickets could affect the prices, said Christian Anderson, a spokesman with FanSnap.com, a consumer ticket comparison website.
Tickets for the Feb. 6 game currently are averaging $4,251 on the website, which has yet to see the added standing-room only tickets, he said.
“If the league does make SRO tickets available, fans can expect the increased supply to create downward pressure,” Anderson said, adding the football teams going to the Super Bowl also will likely influence ticket sales.

Super Bowl Tickets
Who REALLY gets to attend the SuperBowl?
5% of the Super Bowl Tickets go to the host team of the game; in this case The Dallas Cowboys;
17.5% go to the AFC and the NFC Representative Teams;
The remaining 29 NFL Teams get 12 percent each;
1% of the tickets are for sale to the fans that are selected through an annual Super Bowl random drawing. This is the leagues only method of distributing tickets to the general public;
The remaining 25% of the tickets are controlled by the NFL and are distributed mainly to NFL affiliated companies, the broadcast network, corporate sponsors, the media and the host committee.
So if you know of anyone that are in any of these organizations this is going to be your main way of getting tickets to this spectacular event.
The chances of an average North Texan getting a ticket to the Super Bowl is very very slim.
In order to participate in getting the 1% tickets that are sold to the general public you will have to send your name, address, phone number and email address to: SuperBowl Random Drawing, P.O. Box 49140, Strongsville, OH 44149-0140.
You will be notified in October or November if you are eligible to purchase a ticket.
If you should miss the date for registering to be able to buy tickets you can always go through the Host Committee and there are several organizations which offer group rates and packages.
